Our Beginning

NudgeUp are a team of researchers, psychologists, and designers that all share the same vision - to create design that helps.  

Design is such an important aspect in our everyday lives. It is everywhere we look; from posters to road signs. And it all influences how we make decisions. So why not create design that helps us make more positive decisions and boost our health and wellbeing. For example, designs that help us eat healthier or get more exercise.

Our PROJECTS

Our design process is based on an innovative theory known as nudge.

A nudge is a cutting-edge method, taken from the behavioural sciences, that can alter an individual’s choices by changing the design and layout of their environment. A simple nudge would be to move apples to an eye-level shelf in a cafeteria so you can increase the likelihood of apples being purchased.

Creating nudges is what we do.

 
THE #SMARTMENU PROJECT   Our #SmartMenu healthy eating project used nudge designed menus to increase jacket potato sales in a local cafe by over 500% (Plymouth, UK)  The #SmartMenu project also saw more success with 125% sales increase in another local cafe in Plymouth.

GREEN FOOTPRINTS AND HEALTHY EATING   We designed and implemented a research project that aimed to increase fruit purchases (apples, bananas and oranges) in a supermarket.  Through thorough observations and analysis we designed an intervention (green footprints) that increased the fruit purchasing by  99.6% .

SHOPPING BEHAVIOURS   This project involved manipulating the space and locations of food items in a cafeteria.  This project increased the healthy food purchasing, inside the cafeteria,by  137%.   .

GUERRILLA NUDGE   This is one of our ongoing projects.  This project aims to tackle unhealthy lifestyle behaviours (over-eating, passive-smoking etc.) in the local community through observational research..

USER DESIGN AND RESEARCH   NudgeUp has experts in a vast amount of statistical analysis and research design.  We have worked on various UI design projects that involved us collecting and analysing user's interactions with a software's interface. During these research projects we utilised eye-tracking technologies and various qualitative data collection methods..
